MOBA Upper90's Danielle Gray becomes the first female goal scorer in ADASL History.

ATLANTA -- The 2020 Summa Sportswear Fall Cup has been full of surprises and firsts. The Atlanta District Amateur League has seen two newcomers earn spots in the semi-finals of the Fall Cup as well as tough competition from two Division 1 regulars in Majestic Soccer Club and Club ATLetic. Another first was made in Week One of the 2020 Summa Fall Cup as Danielle Gray scored a late penalty goal for her first goal in the ADASL. The goal was also the first goal scored by a woman in the Atlanta District Amateur Soccer League’s fifty-three-year history in the 6-0 victory for MOBA Upper90.

“She played with us on MOBA Reserves in 2018 but then took last year off following a short stint over in Europe before succumbing to a nasty ACL injury”, said manager Daniel Battaglia. “She is a solid player that we always are happy to have out there with us.”

After playing a year overseas and recovering from an injury, Gray has been back in her hometown of Peachtree City where she has been playing in the WPSL for Peachtree City MOBA and on-and-off playing for the MOBA Upper90 team in the Atlanta District Amateur Soccer League.Danielle adds her name to a long list of players who have scored in the ADASL and the first woman to make the list formally. Danielle Gray played her collegiate soccer at Ole Miss and Kennesaw State University where she was a defender for the Owls and helped lead them to the Atlantic Sun Championship game in 2014 and transferred to Ole Miss in 2015 where she played up until 2017 as a defender while earning the Taylor Medal which only 78 students at Ole Miss earned that year.

“For me it’s been a great experience getting to play ADASL. I’ve made some great friends and have loved getting to play again at a competitive level, explained Danielle. “I would definitely encourage them to pursue the opportunity! It’s a great way to continue to play and I love the competitiveness of the league.”

The Atlanta District Amateur Soccer League is proud to see Danielle excel with her team this season and we look forward to seeing more former collegiate female players as well as current high school players looking for the weekend competition in the metro Atlanta area! The Atlanta District Amateur Soccer League now in its 52nd year, was founded in 1967 in conjunction with the creation of the Atlanta Chiefs, Atlanta's first professional soccer team. The coaches and players of the Chiefs helped to establish this league to generate interest in soccer. The ADASL was the first league created locally and also became the first, and now oldest, member of the Georgia State Soccer Association. One of our founders, player-coach Phil Woosnam went on to become the North American Soccer League chairman and an inductee into the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame. Today, the league is recognized as the most competitive organized affiliated adult league in metro Atlanta.
